1. Information We Collect

When you use Resonance, we collect the following information:

  • Account information: Your name and email address from Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. If you use Sign in with Apple's email relay, we only receive your relay address.
  • Profile information: Display name, bio, pronouns, profile photo, favorite genres, and top artists that you choose to provide.
  • Music activity: Songs and artists you listen to through the app or Apple Music, including listening history and your current listening session. This data powers our matching features.
  • Chat messages: Messages you send to your matches within the app.
  • Device information: Your device token for push notifications.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To match you with other users based on shared music taste (real-time and historical matching).
  • To display your public profile to other authenticated users.
  • To enable chat messaging between matched users.
  • To send push notifications about new matches and messages.
  • To enforce our community guidelines (content moderation, reports, and blocks).

3. What Other Users Can See

Other authenticated users can see your public profile: display name, profile photo, bio, pronouns, favorite genres, top artists, currently listening status, and favorite song.

Your email address, blocked users list, and device token are never visible to other users. These are stored in a private subcollection that only you and our servers can access.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) with security rules that enforce access control. Sensitive data (email, device tokens) is stored in a private subcollection separate from your public profile. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, storage, cloud functions, and push notifications. See Firebase Privacy Policy.
  • Apple MusicKit: To access your Apple Music listening activity (with your permission). See Apple Privacy Policy.
  • Google Sign-In: As an alternative authentication option. See Google Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the app settings. When you delete your account:

  • Your user profile and private data are permanently deleted.
  • Your matches, chat messages, listening history, and imported playlists are permanently deleted.
  • Your friend requests (sent and received) are deleted.
  • Your reports are removed.
  • This process is irreversible.

7. Children's Privacy

Resonance is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data (visible in your profile and settings).
  • Correct your personal data (edit your profile at any time).
  • Delete your account and all associated data.
  • Block other users to prevent them from contacting you or appearing in your feed.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.
